Who is Asaph?

ASAPH is one of the three leaders of music in David's organization of the tabernacle service (1Ch 15:16-19; 16:5-7; 25:1-9; 2Ch 5:12; 35:15; Ne 12:46). He is appointed to sound the cymbals in the temple choir (1Ch 15:17, 19; 16:5, 7); and a composer of sacred lyrics (2Ch 29:13-30). His name is found on the titles of Psalms 50; 73-83.

1CH 15:16 David told the leaders of the Levites to appoint their brothers as singers to sing joyful songs, accompanied by musical instruments: lyres, harps and cymbals. 1CH 15:17 So the Levites appointed Heman son of Joel; from his brothers, Asaph son of Berekiah;

1CH 16:4 He appointed some of the Levites to minister before the ark of the LORD, to make petition, to give thanks, and to praise the LORD, the God of Israel: 5 Asaph was the chief, Zechariah second, then Jeiel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Mattithiah, Eliab, Benaiah, Obed-Edom and Jeiel. They were to play the lyres and harps, Asaph was to sound the cymbals, 6 and Benaiah and Jahaziel the priests were to blow the trumpets regularly before the ark of the covenant of God. 1 CH 16:7 That day David first committed to Asaph and his associates this psalm of thanks to the LORD......

In the last 2 months plus of reading Psalms, most of the Psalms were written by Kings. As we continued to read the Psalms in the next 2 weeks, let us approach the word of God differently... As Asaph is one of the Levites appointed to worship the Lord, let us read Psalms in the following 2 weeks with a heart of worship adoring the Lord our God!!!

God bless!!!
